Max Snyder is a chef and a gardener from Austin, Texas. As the executive chef at Pitchfork Pretty, his unique approach to cooking showcases an enthusiasm for vegetables and a love of simplicity. Snyder spent much of his childhood exploring the Hill Country in and around Central Texas hiking, biking and camping. During this time, nature became a source of inspiration and curiosity. “Cooking on a campfire has always been my ideal scenario,” says Snyder.
His passion for cooking led Snyder to both New York and San Francisco, where he worked at such acclaimed restaurants as Saison, Coi and Eleven Madison Park. In 2015, Snyder opened Old Bus Tavern in San Francisco, which immediately earned a spot on the San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 100 Restaurants list. Snyder returned to Austin in 2016, to open Pitchfork Pretty with owner, Seth Baas, and general manager, Alex Dubey, in summer 2017.
In its first year open Pitchfork Pretty was named as a best new restaurant by both Texas Monthly and Austin Monthly and in 2018 the restaurant earned the #2 spot on the Austin American-Statesman’s Dining Guide. Snyder was also named amongst StarChef’s “Rising Star Chefs” of 2017.
